How Women Can Build A Lady Lair

How to build a lady lairRelaxation, it’s one of the best parts of the day. You’ve had a long day, you’ve crossed out many tasks on your to-do list, and you’re feeling pretty accomplished. So what’s left to do but take a breather and relax?

For years, I’ve heard about how men need a special place to call their own in the house, where they can relax and just enjoy some “guy” time. This fortress of solitude has been coined the “Man Cave.” Why is it that men get to have all of the fun?

What about women who want to have a place of our own? Allow me to introduce the concept of the lady lair.

What about our lady lair?

This got me thinking; what would it be like to create a lady lair? Had it been done before? Was it popular? Would it be easy? When speaking with many of my friends, they all exhibited the same excitement around the idea, but when asked if they would ever create one, many said it sounded too complicated or time consuming.

I’m here to show you that your lady lair is both possible and achievable! Below I’ll outline basic steps you should take in order to create your most magnificent home renovation yet – the lady lair.

What do you want your lady lair to be?

It’s a good idea to pick a theme and purpose of your lair. Do you want to relax and read a book? Watch a movie or listen to music? Get artistic and creative? All of these will play a big role in the size, decor and functionality of your lair.

It’s important that you let your creative juices flow. This is your lady lair, not someone else’s. You don’t have your parents telling you what you can or can’t do, your roommates, or your significant other, this is YOUR space so feel free to get as creative as you want!

Regardless of the theme you go with, take the time to give the room that extra personal touch that no one else can re-create.

Decide where to put your lady lair

It’s important to measure your space (length, width, height) and transfer your measurements onto some graph paper using a scale. This will allow you to plan your lair in greater detail. The more detail you work out on the drawing board, the easier creating your lair will be.

Next, create a time map or step–by-step list of what you’d like to accomplish to create your lair. Start with the most difficult and time sensitive remodels first and work from there. By creating this map, it puts into perspective what you need to accomplish and a time frame in which to do so.

How many times have you seen things around the house that got started but were never finished? Just writing this all down puts you in a better place to accomplish your remodel goals and puts things into perspective.

Material & decorations for your lady lair

Make a list of all the materials you’re going to need to create your lady lair. This includes both remodeling materials and decorations. Whether you’re going to need artwork, furniture, or other knick-knacks, you’ll need something to furnish the space so it doesn’t seem empty.

Pick the items that will make your lady lair feel the most like “you” and enjoyable. As I mentioned before, this is YOUR personal space so enjoy it. If you’re under a strict budget, it’s wise to leave around a 10% or 15% allowance for extra or unforeseen costs that may arise. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Reap the rewards of your lady lair

Working on a big project like this can be fun, but inviting your friends to help can be even more fun! Plus, if you invite your friends to help, it will get done faster, they might have the skills you lack, and you’ll have shared a new experience together.

Then, once your lady lair is complete, all of your planning and hard work has paid off. Sit back, relax, and enjoy it!
