7 Fireplace Decorating Ideas for Summer

Warm weather is here, which means no more evening fires.  But a fireplace and hearth can look somewhat bare and forlorn in the summer months.  Here are 7 ideas for decorating your fireplace area and keeping the space interesting in summertime.

1. Use Plants to bring the outside in

Depending on where your fireplace is located and the extension of its hearth, think about surrounding it with a colorful foliage arrangement.

If you are lucky enough to have plenty of sunlight coming in go for natural flowers, herbs and unique foliage; otherwise, use silk flowers to craft a custom floral arrangement for the space.

Fireplace Decorating Ideas for Summer - Candles2. Create a scented fireplace with candles

Candles are possibly the most common and cost effective solution to fill the empty firebox during the months when it is not in use.

Place scented candles of different shapes, sizes and colors inside the fireplace to for unique decorating flair.

3. Set up a display area for your best photo or artwork

Art enthusiasts really love this idea. One of the easiest ways to make your fireplace part of your décor is to treat it as being the largest object of an art collection.

As soon as the winter is past and you’re no longer using your fireplace, clean up the hearth and then cover the entire base of the firebox with clear glass beads, white marble beads, or white pebbles.

This will act as the perfect base for some of your favorite photos, or a particularly cherished artwork.

4. Design your own meditation nook

Depending on the surroundings of your fireplace and your lifestyle, creating a meditation area can be a great way to reuse your fireplace during the warmer months.

Place a mirror in the back of the firebox, add an image of your meditation icon, and surround it with candles, flowers and some glass beads. Place some pillows on the hearth along with other meditation accessories including small plants or flowers.

5. Produce an exclusive vignette using some of your favorite collectibles

Select some of your favorite collectibles such as vases and group them inside and outside the firebox to produce a unique vignette. Think about applying a few design elements such as size, shape, color, and pattern.

6. Make your fireplace disappear completely

Some people really don’t like the idea of seeing their fireplace during the warmer months. If you are one of them, consider the option of working with custom-tailored screens or room dividers on a large scale.
